Shilajit Resin Purification: Removing Heavy Metals While Preserving Fulvic Acid

By Rajesh Sharma, Mineral Extraction Specialist June 5, 2026

Shilajit is a nutrient-dense mineral pitch that exudes from mountain rocks during warm seasons, formed over centuries from the slow decomposition of organic plant matter. It is rich in Fulvic Acid, humic compounds, and over 84 trace minerals. However, raw shilajit naturally contains heavy metals and microbial contaminants that must be removed before it is safe for human consumption.

The Chemistry of Fulvic Acid

Fulvic acid is a low-molecular-weight organic acid that acts as a natural chelator. It binds to mineral ions, making them highly soluble and bio-available to human cells. Fulvic acid also helps transport nutrients across cell membranes and neutralizes free radicals in the body.

If raw shilajit is purified using high temperatures or chemical solvents, these delicate organic acids can degrade, severely reducing the resin’s cognitive and mitochondrial support benefits.

Our Clean Extraction Protocol

We utilize a proprietary, cold-extraction water filtration method to purify our shilajit:

  1. Spring Water Extraction: Raw rocks are dissolved in pure, mountain spring water, allowing dense particulate matter to settle naturally.
  2. Multi-Stage Micro-Filtration: The solution is passed through fine membranes to filter out heavy metals, mold, and environmental contaminants without chemical solvents.
  3. Low-Temperature Vacuum Evaporation: To concentrate the extract back into a thick resin, we evaporate water using a vacuum chamber kept strictly below 50°C (122°F), preserving the biological activity of the organic acids.

Heavy Metal Verification Limits

Every batch of our purified Shilajit resin is certified to meet strict safety criteria:

  • Lead (Pb): < 0.5 ppm
  • Arsenic (As): < 1.0 ppm
  • Cadmium (Cd): < 0.2 ppm
  • Mercury (Hg): < 0.1 ppm
  • Fulvic Acid: Standardized to a minimum of 50% by weight.
